Our Meetings

“Having a group like GVOA to go to 2 months after my Ileostomy surgery was a lifesaver for me. Things moved very quickly after a tumor was found in a CT- scan, with surgery 4 days later. “Icing on the cake” was at the 1st meeting. There was a veteran who shared a tip about a product they use inside their bag. I tried it and it works like a charm.” Terry (Rochester, NY)
Seize the opportunity to Live Life!
The Genesee Valley Ostomy Association of Rochester was established July 3, 1961, by a group of patients committed to improve the quality of life for people undergoing a form of intestinal or urological diversion. GVOA's goal was to provide support, education and resources to patients, and their families, living with an ostomy. My message at this time is to send many thanks to this original group of patients for their commitment, amount of time and resources they provided. GVOA has provided educational support and resources to the Rochester community for nearly 60 years.  However, with computers and social media technology that has come along since the 1960's., it seems this has taken precedence over what our commitment stood for. So, on the behalf of myself and the Board of  Directors, we have decided as of January 1st 2019, our meetings of the GVOA Support Group will no longer be continued for the Rochester area.  Our decision is based on the fact that the attendance has dropped drastically, and inquires related to ostomy diversions can now be found on a social media link. I would like to thank all the GVOA Support Group volunteers for their dedicated time and contributions to keeping this organization in operation to this point.  I would also, like to thank the local agencies and the medical professionals, who shared with us, their support for our concerns and frustrations over the years. Regards, Joan Aubertine President GVOA Support Group
